Welcome Our New Publisher!

In June the Board of Connecticut Explored Inc. appointed Dr. Katherine A. Hermes as the organization’s new Executive Director and Publisher. Hermes began on July 5, succeeding Founding Publisher Elizabeth J. Normen, who retired from the post she created after 20 years.

Kendall Wiggin, Chair of the Board of Connecticut Explored and a member of the search committee, said, “We are delighted to bring Dr. Hermes on board. She brings to us a deep and rich knowledge of both American and Connecticut history. She is widely known as a brilliant, extraordinary, and highly respected scholar of American history and is recognized for both her ability and desire to make history relatable to a broader audience. We look forward to working with her and to exploring what’s next for Connecticut Explored.”

Give – CTExplored Fund for Excellence in Publishing

As we celebrate Connecticut Explored’s 20th anniversary this year, the Board of Connecticut Explored asks you to support The Fund for Excellence in Publishing. The Fund honors the contributions of CTExplored’s retiring Founding Publisher, Elizabeth J. Normen, who has generously served without compensation for 20 years, and Assistant Publisher Mary Donohue, who is retiring after 9 years of service. The Fund also recognizes the ongoing creative contributions of 20-year Art Director John Alves and the steadfast professional work of Editor of 17 years Jennifer LaRue, both of whom continue with the publication.

The Fund will also help CTExplored transition to a paid Executive Director & Publisher for the first time in 20 years and, under the leadership of Katherine A. Hermes, ensure our continued excellence in publishing.

The Fund is the focus of our Friends of Connecticut Explored annual appeal this year. The Board has set an ambitious $100,000 goal. We invite you, our readers, subscribers, and Friends, to make a generous donation to The Fund to celebrate 20 years of publication and honor those who have made it possible.

If you are a current donor, we thank you and hope that you will stretch and even double your gift this year. It’s a bold ask, but this is an important milestone and a giant step for our organization. If you’re a first-time donor, please consider a $200 gift or more for our 20th year!

Donate online at CTExplored.org/donate-now or send a check to Connecticut Explored, P.O. Box 271561, West Hartford, CT 06127-1561. Many Friends give gifts from their donor-advised funds or via their IRA. If you would like to make a gift of appreciated stock, visit HERE or please contact the publisher at publisher@ctexplored.org.

We appreciate your support and look forward to having you with us as we embark on our next 20 years!

Lyman Allyn adThank You, CTHumanities

Thank you to CTHumanities for awarding CTExplored a grant to help underwrite the magazine’s 20th anniversary. The grant supports the presentation of 20 for 20: Innovators in Connecticut History. This exploration of who and what projects are advancing the study, interpretation, and dissemination of Connecticut history would not be possible without CTHumanities’s planning grant last year and implementation grant this year. See page 20 for details.
