CT Explored to Celebrate 20th Anniversary in 2022

Help Endow Connecticut Explored

Connecticut Explored published its first issue of the print magazine nearly 20 years ago, in Fall 2002. How time flies! Since then, we’ve co-presented public programs with our partners, added a podcast with the state historian, published a book, educational resources, and—the newest addition—an e-newsletter (more about this below). Planning and fundraising is underway to mark the 20th anniversary in a big way beginning in Fall 2022.

One initiative is to establish a permanent endowment for the organization. This effort to ensure Connecticut Explored’s long-term viability was jumpstarted through the auspices of the Zachs Family Foundation, longtime Friend of Connecticut Explored. This spring the foundation launched an effort to encourage approximately 50 nonprofit organizations in the Greater Hartford area to establish or add to their endowments by offering matching gifts. Connecticut Explored, as part of the program, established the Connecticut Explored Endow Hartford 21 Fund at the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving. If you would like to help, please make a gift to the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving designated for the Connecticut Explored Endow Hartford 21 Fund. Gifts between $250 and $10,000 are eligible for a 50 percent match up to a cap of $25,000 in matching funds ($250 becomes $375; $10,000 becomes $15,000). Gifts can be made by check, credit card, and marketable securities and from donor-advised funds. Corporate matching gifts are eligible for the match, too. The Hartford Endow 21 campaign runs through June 30, 2022.

Subscription Rates Increase

CT Explored hasn’t increased its member-subscription rates since our 10th anniversary in Fall 2012. And that was only the second rate increase ever, and the first in 9 years! Clearly we don’t do this often or lightly. We took a look at other magazines of this quality and determined that a $5 per year increase at all levels was warranted and would, importantly, help sustain us.

The new member-subscription rates, starting with this issue are: $30 for one year; $25 for one year for seniors and members of our organizational partners; $20 for one year for educators; $50 for two years; $43 for two years for senior and members of our organization partners; $30 for two years for educators. We hope you agree that Connecticut Explored remains a great value. We value member-subscribers’ support and look forward to continuing to serve you with excellence.

What is CTExplored/Inbox?

We’re experimenting with offering to send CT Explored to people’s e-mail inboxes, in addition to sending the print magazine to people’s mailboxes.

Subscribers who have provided us with their e-mail address have, since last March, been receiving an e-mail newsletter, called CTExplored/Inbox, on the first and fifteenth of each month. Each CTExplored/Inbox includes a short summary of one story from the current issue, the latest Grating the Nutmeg podcast episode, selected programs and exhibitions from our partners, and selected stories from back issues to revisit. Find all of the issues at CTExplored.substack.com.

If you haven’t received the e-mail newsletter but would like to, please sign up on CTExplored.org or at CTExplored.substack.com or send an e-mail to publisher@ctexplored.org. If you’d rather not receive it, feel free to unsubscribe at the bottom of the e-mail or let us know by sending us a message at publisher@ctexplored.org.

A premium version, called CTExplored/Inbox Premium, gives those who subscribe to it the same access to full stories online as print subscribers receive. It is intended for those who may prefer a digital subscription over a print subscription.

Print subscribers receive a separate email at the beginning of each issue with the special password to read the entire current issue on CTExplored.org in advance of its availability to everyone. Contact us anytime for the current password.

Need a Replacement?

If your print issue arrives damaged or the USPS fails to deliver it, please contact us for a replacement—on us. Extra copies may be ordered for $8 each, including shipping and sales tax. Back issues are available under the issues tab.
