VOLUME 22/NUMBER 3/SUMMER 2024       (c) Connecticut Explored

Thank you very much for your kind and gracious correction of the information on the [Connecticut Archives Month] poster [Fall 2023 issue] relating to Mary Hall. [State Archivist] Lizette Pelletier sent me a copy of the revised poster, and I’m looking forward to having it framed.

Thank you for the article about AM Litho! Down memory lane, many, many, many decades ago, I worked for a graphics firm in Manchester and remember well having to spec and order type, make paste-up proofs, etc. My [set-up] was a 15” (or thereabouts) B&W production camera, complete with a darkroom where I developed the film. As I read the article, I could really relate to the close-up of how commercial production technology has changed.

Thank you for the article about 3D scanning. WOW! Down memory lane, 25ish years ago, I worked in facilities management. I was the assistant database administrator for the Archibus database at Pfizer. AutoCAD was, and still is, an integral part of Archibus. When I read that those scans could be converted into AutoCAD files, I was truly in awe of the exciting progress that has been made in documenting architecture. It almost made me wish I hadn’t retired!!!!

Peace and joy!

_______

In 2023, I visited over 200 museums, either alone or with family and friends. What surprised me the most was how much history, culture, and variety we have not only in Connecticut but throughout New England. In each museum I visited, I gained knowledge and experienced new things, such as seeing new and old artwork at the New Britain Museum of American Art. I saw the planes people flew at the New England Air Museum and the cars people drove at various museums throughout New England. I experienced life in the homes and gardens of the rich and famous. All along the way, I appreciated the staff who support these programs. I feel that museums offer a unique opportunity for all who travel. Two great places to visit are Mystic Seaport Museum in Connecticut and Old Sturbridge Village in Massachusetts. The first offers a seaside village, the other a working farm from old New England. In both places, you can immerse yourself. You can travel back in time to experience how life used to be.
