Connecticut Explored, Inc., The Center for Connecticut Studies, the Department of History at Eastern Connecticut State University, and the Association for the Study of Connecticut History will host the “Present from the Start: People of Color in Connecticut’s Revolutionary Era, 1763-1836” conference to be held on Saturday, September 20, 2025 from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm at Eastern Connecticut State University in the Student Center.
We welcome panel proposals, individual paper proposals, digital projects, and posters on all subjects relating to People of Color in the American Revolutionary Era, defined as 1763 (the end of the French and Indian/Seven Years War) to 1836 (when the last pension act was enacted). Subjects are open and may include intellectual, social, military, economic, legal, gender, or other approaches to history. The form to submit a proposal is available below and should be submitted by May 1, 2025.
Postgraduate, early careers researchers, graduate and undergraduate students, and independent scholars are particularly encouraged to submit proposals.
Presenters may be considered for publication in Connecticut Explored, a quarterly magazine devoted to Connecticut history, or Connecticut History Review, the state’s scholarly journal on Connecticut history, if they meet the respective publications’ criteria.
